In a recent interview conducted by Tu`Fanza Byrd-Primos, Director of Operations at the Parent Power Lab, Jahna Riley, the Executive Director of the KC Parent Coalition, shared her insights and aspirations regarding her work and the work of the organization. With a background as a mother and former educator, Jahna has devoted her career to education and supporting families in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Empowering Parents in Kansas City

The KC Parent Coalition, established in 2022, is driven by a powerful mission: to amplify the capacity, connectedness, and collective power of parents in the Kansas City Metro area. This collective vision arose from various parent-facing organizations seeking to unite their efforts in supporting parents. The founding members of the coalition include the Parent Power Lab, the Parent Leadership Training Institute, and Start at Zero, all of which share a dedication to empowering parents and families. The coalition's foundational support comes from the Kansas City Action Fund, demonstrating a shared commitment to fostering positive change.

A Vision for Parent Empowerment

Jahna Riley's role as the Executive Director of the KC Parent Coalition revolves around a profound aspiration – to ensure that parents are represented in influential positions across various organizations within the city. By accomplishing this, the coalition aims to foster a paradigm shift where family and youth support organizations operate through a lens of parent strength.
